Jonathan Penney started Penney Design Group in 2010. His experience was proceeded by years working at a multi-disciplinary International Architecture Firm where he was Principal of the Commercial Design group. His expertise spans both new construction and renovation projects which cover a broad range of building types including automotive, mixed-use, retail, office, interiors, industrial, and residential. Mr. Penney focuses on leading his team through a comprehensive feasibility study to design concept through construction for each of his projects. He has developed a thorough understanding of economic and market conditions which enables him to provide optimum programming for all commercial developments. To that end, Mr. Penney works closely with the owners, developers and contractors at the onset of a project to achieve the most viable economic and creative solution available.
Mr. Penney graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Bachelor of Architecture from the Catholic University of America. He is registered as an architect in a multitude of states and is National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) certified. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the Development Board for Catholic University Architecture, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association (WANADA).
Mr. Penney has been honored with several prestigious awards throughout his career, these include the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Diamond Award of Excellence for Porsche Hunt Valley, the ABC Green Award and ABC Award of Excellence for Mercedes-Benz of Silver Spring, Maryland, and multiple awards from the Association of Builders and Contractors for projects such as Mini of Baltimore County, Mercedes-Benz of Alexandria, Virginia, and American Service Center. Additionally, he received the Aurora Award for Mercedes-Benz of Richmond, Virginia, and the Great American Living Award for the Crabtree Residence, recognized as the Best Home over five million dollars. His achievements also include the ABC Award of Excellence for Mercedes-Benz of Annapolis, Maryland, the Collier Building Industry Association Award for Best Commercial Project for Ferrari of Naples, Florida, and the NAIOP Northern Virginia Retail Award of Excellence for Aston Martin Bentley of Loudoun.
